As emotions go, anger is right there with happiness, depression and any other emotion that you can think of. It is a part of life, of everyone’s life. How you deal with anger and control it is the key. Some folks not only control it but use it to their advantage, whereas others let it consume their lives.

As with other emotions, anger has an effect on the body. Depending on how anger you are, the signs could be high blood pressure, a red face, trembling and an increased heart rate. It is pretty easy to see when someone is angry.

At this point the question is how do we express that anger? That’s where the trouble usually begins for some people. They may explode into a name calling tirade or break something or threaten someone. And others may take a step back, pause, make a comment or two and walk away. You may think that this is the best way to handle anger, maybe, as long as the individual understands why they are angry and they are able to redirect the anger.

Don’t repress the anger.

Anger has to have an outlet; if not it will build up and eventually be released at usually the worst time. One of the best ways to deal with anger is through anger management, which deals with learning how to react when anger arises.

Relaxation techniques and deep breathing exercises are also useful when dealing with anger as well as guided imagery.
